Just in case you were looking for another reason not to vote for Donald Trump, I’ve got it right here.
Back in 2002, Trump’s current VP pick Mike Pence responded to statements made about safe sex in an MTV forum, as well as statements made by Colin Powell, the Secretary of State at the time. Pence stated:
… frankly, condoms are a very, very poor protection against sexually transmitted diseases and in that sense the Secretary of State may be inadvertently misleading millions of young people and endangering lives.
He even said,regarding condoms:
…it truly was a modern, liberal answer to a problem that parents like me are facing all over America and frankly, all over the world.
Really? Birth control is too “modern” and “liberal” for you? OK.
Mike Pence’s unfortunate (and completely false) statements about condoms aren’t his only show of close-mindedness when it comes to sex. He’s spent millions of dollars on funding education that promotes abstinence only and even wants to outlaw porn sites. Oh, andhe’s literally been quoted saying, “I long for the day that Roe v. Wade is sent to the ash heap of history.”
Well, Mr. Pence, I think you may be very misinformed about condoms. Apparently you didn’t attend middle school health class. Let’s just take a look at some cold, hard facts about condoms, shall we?
According to Planned Parenthood, condoms makes sex 10,000 times safer when it comes to contracting HIV.According to The Center for Disease Control and Prevention,“consistent and correct use of the male latex condom reduces the risk of sexually transmitted disease.” This includes STDs that are spread skin-to-skin like herpes. If condoms are perfectly used, only two out of one hundred women will become pregnant.
So, there you have it. Guys, please promise me you won’t support Pence’s stupidity by voting red.
