28-year-old Police Officer Cody Garrett was on duty in South Carolina, when he heard an animal crying underneath a dumpster.

It turned out to be a tiny kitten. He took her back to the station and – with a cat at home already nursing four kittens – offered to adopt her.

The kitten (christened “Squirt” after she sh*t everywhere whenCody got her home) was only about half the size of the other kittens being nursed by his cat (Toothless), but she settled in fine:

While she seems to be getting on great with her adopted mum and siblings, Cody is definitelySquirt’s favourite. He recently posted a picture to Reddit(which is now, understandably, going viral) of the two of them together on duty:

By the looks of it, they’re pretty inseparable.

As Buzzfeed reports, this isn’t the first time Cody has rescued animals whilst on duty. He recently shared images on Imgur of puppies that he found, and took to his local humane shelter.

He seems, however, to have found a new best friend and partner in Squirt. You can check out a video of her chilling at home (while off duty, of course) here:

How heart-warming is that?!
