Plunging into the tub for an hour-long soak reduces inflammation and affects blood sugar levels in ways that mimic an hour-long, moderately tough workout, experts have revealed.
Experts at Loughborough University recruited 14 men to take part in a study that examined if passive heating, as opposed to a hot and sweaty workout, improves health.
Half of the men were put on an exercise bike for an hour, while the other half enjoyed a 40-degree C (104-degree F) bath.
Researchers measured how many calories they all burned and their blood sugar levels were monitored for 24 hours afterwards.
While the cylists burned more calories, the blood sugar responses of all those taking part was similar, the experts noted.
