Our generation’s obsession with social media has gone too far.

Rather than build connects and find consolation with our true selves, we choose to hide behind screens and go to extreme durations to portray unrealistic aspects of our lives.

Former Instagram modelEssena ONeill recently spoke up about the artificiality behind popular social media accounts. The model taken any steps by re-captioning her old Instagram posts to uncover the lengths she went to stimulate her shots look perfect.

O’Neill’s story erupted an outrage over social media platforms that are based on validation in likes and followers. There is so much pressure for young adults today to fit a certain image; we are constantly on the hunt for new ways to perfect our own shots.

It doesn’t help many of the celebrities we look up to are obsessivelyusing these platforms to share flawless photos of themselves. And over the years, celebrities have been accused of posting Photoshopped and retouched pictures of themselves on their social media accounts.

From making thigh gaps to making stomachs seem flatter, some celebrities have gone to extreme durations to share unrealistic portrayings of whom they genuinely are.

Below you can find eight celebrities who have been called out for their fake photos.

Perhaps this will be a reminder you can’t believe everything you consider on social media, and we all should take a step back from our cell phones and think about what truly matters.

1. Beyonc

Fans called out Beyonc for Photoshopping a thigh gap in this photo. You can see the jagged edges along her legs, an immediate giveaway.

Fans also pointed out the twisting of her phone and the wine glass in this photo. You can see the lines on the items somewhat bending around her thighs, probably the result from utilizing a liquify tool to try to shrink her thigh.

There is evidence that suggests her thighs may have been altered in theimage above as well. If you appear between her legs, you can see thatthe lines of the steps are distorted and do not go straight across behind her.

2. Lindsay Lohan

The photo above shows clear signs of editing. You can see how the door curves with her thigh and butt, proving the righthand side of the photo was altered.

3. Kim Kardashian

If you appear closely at the door on the left side, you can see it’s curved. This could be due to her slimming her waist with Photoshop.

You can see the curvature of the door again here, except it bends slightly differently than the last photo. The bending of the background image shows Kim may have trimmed her belly and enhanced her assets.

4. Kylie Jenner

The “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star uploaded the photo on the left before instantly deleting it. You can see the pixelation around her legs, and the jaggedness of the leading edge. She ended up uploading the image on the right instead, where you can see the leading edge smoothed, but still a clear difference in the before-and-after photos.

5. Miranda Kerr

The Victoria’s Secret model has been accused of retouching her images as well. If you look at the lines on the carpet, you can see they bend in somewhat toward her waist. This could be from her trimming down her thighs and stomach.

6. Britney Spears

Now, I’m not quite sure what to call this, but fans accused Britney of drawing on fake abs. If you look at her belly, you can see dark lines that resemble a six pack.

7. John Mayer

Even John Mayer has gotten some criticism for this photo he uploaded. If you look at their faces, you can see their features are blurred and their skin appears extra smooth. This is most likely a result of airbrushing in Photoshop.

8. Lady Gaga

Fans have pointed thumbs at this photo of Lady Gaga. The checkered tiles around her belly region bend a little bit differently than the others, which could allude to the fact thatthere was some retouching done.

In the end, I consider it most upsetting that even celebrities feel the need to alter their physical appearances to fit the media’s distortedperception of beauty.

It’s timeto say goodbye tounrealistic expectations, and hello to self-love andbody adoption. Let’s start now.
