16 Ridiculous Things That Are Somehow Still Happening In 2016

Its 2016, yet there are so many things occurring that shouldnt be and honestly, Im just really confused about it all.

Its getting to a point where you think everything is a massive joke, but as more headlines appear in your newsfeed, you realize this is the sad reality of America today.

Here are 16 things I cant believe are still happening in 2016:

1. WhyDonald Trump Is The Republican Nominee For Presidency

I dont think I need to expand on this any further.

2. Why Women Are Still Taking The Last Names Of Their Husbands Upon Marriage

I mean, to each his or her own, butyou dont have to change your last name just because youre married. You can still be John Smiths wife without becoming Mrs. John Smith. Its 2016, not the 16thcentury.

3. WhyAll Phone Companies Dont Have Unlimited Data

I had unlimited data in the eighthgrade when all I did was check if I had new photo comments on my Myspace profile picture. Now, at 24, when I actually use my phone for all it has to offer, I cant without relentlessly being reminded that Im already over my data limit.

4. Why Women Still Slut-Shame Each Other

This will always be something I dont understand. Of all the sins in this world, no one deserves a spot in hell more than a woman who doesnt help other women. OK, Im being a tad dramatic, but you know what I mean.

5. Why Music Isnt As Good As It Was From 1997 to 2003

Dont get me wrong; there are some good artists out there making good music, but theres a reason the quote, if the love doesnt feel like a 90s R&B song, I dont want it, exists.

6. Why Celebrities And Notable Figures Coming Out Is Earth-Shattering News

One out of 10 people identify as queer, so if its not you, you have an LGBTQ+ family member, friend, classmate, colleague or Instagram follower.

Its obvious weve made progress in terms of people feeling more comfortable in sharing a part of their identity with the world, but at this point I dont think its groundbreaking to find out that someone is gay, and thats a good thing.

7. Why The Latest Celebrity Gossip Is More Relevant Than The Actual News

As a Millennial, I am not ashamed to admit that I read celebrity news if it pertains to someoneI like. But when Im reading my morning news and the dating life of a celebrity is a bigger topic than the social rights issues, I get a little worried about the future.

8. Why I Have A Boyfriend Is Still The Go-To Response For Rejection

If Im walking down the street and a man approaches me wanting to get to know me I always say no. If he begins to pester me and ask why, I reply, because I dont want to.

Sure, this type of response may get me killed one day because men have fragile egos and cant handle rejection, but I refuse to use having a boyfriend as the reason for not wanting to speak to a strange man.

9. Why There Are So Many Dating Apps Yet Everyone Is StillOn Dating Apps

Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Match, eHarmony, Picke, Grindr, Scruff, Her, JSwipe, BlackPeopleMeet, blah, blah, blah. There are dozens of apps in a city with 8.5 million people and everyone is single AF.

Where are all the kind, generous, intelligent, thoughtful, socially aware, attractive, well-read, worldly, rich, emotionally available, single people? Asking for a friend.

Yes, there has been improvement, service is available at certain stops where it wasnt before, but I should be able to use my phone during my entire commute.

11.Why The Gender Wage Gap Still Exists

Why are there women in power voting to support the gender wage gap? You know who you are.

12.Why Daughters Are Told To Be Careful When Going Out, ButSons Arent Told Not To Rape Anyone

As an avid participant in my campus annual Slut Walk during my undergraduate years, nothing grinds my gears more than rape culture. It is NEVER the victims fault for being sexually harassed or assaulted.

I think its time, as a society, we stop teaching our daughters to fear being raped, but instead remind our sons that consent is a basic human right.

13.Why News Titles Are Yet Another Mass Shooting And Weve All Become Accustomed To It

There were 136 mass shootings this year in the US. One hundred thirty six.

This means on 136 different occasions this year, a minimum of four people were killed because someone had access to a gun.Let that sink in for a little.

14. Why We Still Classify Accomplishments Based On Race, Sexuality And Gender

Spoiler alert: Non-White, male, Christian, cisgendered people arent the only humans capable of accomplishing a great feat, so why do media outlets find it necessary to incessantly remind the public of it? Im beyond over it.

15. WhySomeone Says Theyre Not A Feminist

This can become a wholearticle onits own, but in its simplest definition, a feminist is merely a decent human being.

So, if you dont think people of all genders should be treated equally because youre not a feminist, Ive 100 percent lost all interest in continuing any type of conversation with you.

16.Why Donald Trump Is The Republican Nominee For Presidency

This one is so confusing that it had to open and close this list because truthfully, WHAT. THE. F*CK, AMERICA.
